[Youth] The BSO has a long history of presenting classical music programs to educate and entertain young audiences. Year after year, these programs continue to thrill and inspire the next generation of music lovers. The weekday Youth Concerts attract elementary and middle school children and their teachers from all across New England, while the weekend Family Concerts are a delightful way for families to spend time together. BSO Youth and Family concerts are compelling and interactive and will introduce young people and families to the wide spectrum of classical music. This season’s [Youth] theme is “Community Pride: A Musical Look at Cooperation, Communication, and Conviction.” Returning to the BSO in 2011 is Thomas Wilkins, Music Director of the Omaha Symphony. His energy and commitment to promoting a lifelong enthusiasm for music makes him an audience favorite among all ages.

Again this season, the BSO has teamed up with Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras (BYSO), led by music director Federico Cortese, to provide an entertaining Family Subscription option featuring both BSO members and the outstanding young musicians from BYSO. All shows offer hands-on preor post-concert activities that add to the performance.

[Youth]We look forward to welcoming you to one the BSO’s longstanding traditions in world-renowned Symphony Hall!

[Thomas Wilkins]"Driving Forces"

All of us young and old use the word "driving" in many different ways in our everyday language - everything from "driving a car” to having the "drive" to achieve our dreams. In all of those instances the same ingredients are necessary: having a goal, staying on course, and not giving up. Composers and musicians of all kinds have demonstrated this for centuries. This program shows how this is done with music and how it applies to us as listeners.
